Description
An artwork done 2009, at a time when I saw myself as a seeker and was happy so. Where God became an 'isness' an 'energy' an 'all that is' and I was content with this vacuum as the nothingness as it all was. Religion was not 'for me' and I was convinced till today that I was not for religion. Yes, I wanted to believe there is a placeholder for a God, but the God I grew up with was by no means loving.
There had to be another way. I just did not see it at that time.
Here the figure represents that seeking notion many encounters. Where we stand paused at a crossroads and rather leap to the unknown than reside in the quagmire of religious bias, patriarchal processes, and rules and regulations. [This of course can be applied to every situation or challenge we face] A decision which puts God and the man-made rules at a distance, hoping the separation will keep us from His final judgment which is all brimstone and fire apparently - not my idea of heaven. So I chose to distance myself from Him in the hope that if He is out there He will appreciate my open-mindedness, my reasoning when and if we ever get to have the conversation. Some stay in that space of nothingness, with a haunting suspicion that 'something is missing', there is a longing, a lack, a vacuum that seems without an answer. The challenge is, it is nothingness, meaningless, and now the emphasis turns to me and I, alone, fearful. "It represents to them a situation in which God and the ego “challenge” each other as to whose meaning is to be written in the empty space which meaninglessness provides. The ego rushes in frantically to establish its own “ideas” there, fearful that the void may otherwise be used to demonstrate its own impotence and unreality. And on this alone it is correct."
Many keep seeking within that time-space sense of reality and find what they are looking for, sometimes a realization that is not the me and the I but rather the we.
